Why I Read This: I read the first paragraph and knew this was a pearl of a story. First, it is NOT your typical Edward meets Jasper at college, work, party, or club. Actually, Jasper has not even been introduced into the story yet. The setting intrigues me, as it is late 1800’s France, and Edward is a teenage boy who is pimped out by what appears to be a local priest. Treee tells the story poetically, from a well thought out Edward point of view. Her imagery is beautiful as she describes not only the physical relations between the characters, but the settings as well. This story is only two chapters in, but I am already mesmerized by it and have added it favorites and alerts. I can’t wait to see where she takes this story, and I know it will be beautifully told along the way.

Why I Read This: So I now realize that finding two pearls is much harder than finding one! I came across a few good ones, but they were too high in review count, so I kept clicking. Apparently, angst was the emotion of the day, because this story starts out with Edward depressed at the loss of his best friend, cousin and soul mate, Jasper. They are reunited four years later, only for Edward to find out that Jasper has moved on… to Alice. Edward’s depression spirals, to the point of his family forcing him to seek medical intervention. Gradually, Edward learns to accept that their lives have moved on, but he never gives up hope. That is the continuing theme throughout this one shot, there is always hope.

Why I Read This: I went for E/C because, well, good luck prying Jasper out of Touchstone67’s hands. I chose this fic because the summary piqued my interest being that the story is set in the 80s at Harvard. I have a deep love for that decade and setting it at Harvard puts my geek radar on high alert. Nerdy 80s slash? Yes, please. JeNnNn delivers on what I was hoping for with the 80s references – lots of vernacular and visual imagery appropriate for the time period. She sold me when she brought in the Star Wars reference. She has an enjoyable tone to her writing. I giggled to myself at several points. You can see the foreshadowing of the eventual issues these boys will grapple with coming out in the 80s. This fic has been put on alert, and I am looking forward to seeing where she takes this.

Why I Read This: I assumed that the special treatment was hot boy-on-boy smexing, and I was looking for some smut prior to leaving on vacation. This fic contains one of my favorite elements of slash – the mutual wank scene – and I give high marks for execution. This is a short and sexy little romp where smut is hot without being overly graphic and a nice little Dirty Talking Edward to boot. I recommend this if you are in the mood for a one-shot of spicy slash between the good doctor and Edward.
