Slash Backslash 2.0

Hosted by: Pastiche Pen and AngstGoddess003

Our Brilliant Judges: Starfish422, TuesdayMidnight, Einfach Mich, FrenchBeanz, and Capricorn75.

AND We're BACK! We had such a wonderful turn out for the last contest--tons of readers, amazing entries, and judges who had far too much fun... so, yeah, rinse and repeat, we're off to do Slash Backslash 2.0. Give us your BOY SLASH.

Rules and Guidelines
  • Submissions will be accepted from June 25 - Aug. 15, 2010, ending at 11:59 PM that day.

  • Entries must be between 2,000 - 10,000 words in length. This includes header and the FFn bloat.

  • Entries may be vampy, Canon, AU, AH and any genre (e.g., angst, humor, family, suspense).

  • Entries must be rated appropriately.

  • Any and all Male/Male pairings accepted. Any rating accepted.

  • For the love of God, lubrication or disqualification.

  • No Rape please. No incest (adoption doesn't count.) No bestiality (Wolves don't count.)

  • Collaborations are welcome.

  • Please have your shiz beta'd. We encourage any author with need for a beta to check out Project Team Beta.

  • Limit of ONE ENTRY per author per character pairing. (eg. You can enter with a Jasper/Edward and a Carlisle/Emmett)

  • Entries will be accepted from fanfiction.net (FFn), LiveJournal (LJ), and Twilighted (T’ed). See submission guidelines below.

  • Any non-FFn entries will only be linked on this profile for viewing. Consider using LazyJournal to generate any LJ entries.

  • Entries must be a new story.

  • We're cool with expansion of one-shots after the fact, but please keep in mind that one-shots are judged largely on their ability to exist solely as a one-shot.
Submitting an Entry
Once your one-shot is posted on either FFn, LJ, or Twilighted, please PM us at the Slash Backslash profile page with the story name, or email the links to slash@tlydf.com. You must use the contest header provided below.

The Mac Daddy

The Me & Mr McCarty Contest

Go to fanfiction.com and search Twilight fanfiction (all ratings) - there is a trend that disturbs me immensely...not enough Emmett.

Don't believe me? Well the numbers don't lie:

  • 58,642 Edward centric stories
  • 12,723 Jake centric stories
  • 9,521 Jasper centric stories
  • 5,057 Emmett centric stories
That last number makes my tender little Em loving heart hurt, which is why I am here today, shouting from the blogtop about the Me & Mr. McCarty Contest...cause the world needs more Emmett!

We want your GUYNEXTDOORmett's, we want your DARKmett's, we want your GEEKmett's, we want your ROCKETSCIENTISTmetts, we want your NONCLICHEmetts.

Basically, we want Emmett in whatever way shape or form you can dream him up. Step out of the cliche box and let your imagination run wild!

Pairings? Have at them! Garrett and Em? Alice and Em? Bella and Em? Jasper and Em? and of course, Rose and Em!

Bromance? Romance? Roadtrip? We don't care, we just want GREAT Emmett one shots to fill the void of his secondary character presence, and hopefully, lead to multi chaptered loveliness!

Go checkout the blog for more details, along with a great list of Emmett fics - in some he is the star, in others he is a great supporting character. The consistent theme - he's all gold. Also, keep an eye on FF, more stories will be added to the C2 as the submission date of 6/14 nears.

So please, for me, won't you puh-leeasssse think about writing a good Em one shot? Maybe we can even that story disparity out a bit - the poor guy deserves love too!

Affiliate Post: The Twilight Counsel

The Twilight Counsel

Counsel? Are you sure that's not a typo? Shouldn't it be council?

A lot of people were scratching their heads when the tweets started. What is this thing, and what the heck does it have to do with me?

Very simply, The Twilight Counsel is a support community. Our goal is to bring together newer writers with folks who've 'been there, done that' in the community for support, advice, tips and a general shoulder. By providing forum support for the quick hit questions (e.g. I'm writing a canon back story and I need more info on the Volturi or I know nothing about cars, what type of engine would a '68 Camaro have?) to more direct 1:1 relationships, our goal is to help people looking for support navigate the fandom, while leveraging the knowledge and experience of those that have been around a while and are willing to share their experiences.

So if you are a writer looking for moral support, someone who can act as a sounding board, help you work through plot issues, writers block, or even the best times of the week to post and where to put up teasers, this is your spot. If you are someone that's been around the fandom for at least nine months (why nine months? We'd like you to have been through some of the bigger fandom based events like awards, Fandom Gives Back, and a movie release) and would like to help someone else navigate the waters, jump on in.

Very simply, The Twilight Counsel is meant to provide a layer of support to people across this fandom, and leverage the one thing we all enjoy, a good story, as a positive way to bring people together.

For more information on The Twilight Counsel, the application process for a 1:1 relationship, or the locations of the open forums, please visit our LiveJournal site. (please note the comm is open to all, you do not need an LJ membership to view or post). If you have any direct questions, we'll happily field them at twilightcounsel@gmail.com.

To directly access the 1:1 mentor applications please visit the senior coven member application to apply to mentor, and the new coven member application to request a mentor.

Project Team Beta

PTB has a new look!

Project Team Beta is excited to announce the launch of our brand new site! Our group has been up and running for one full year, and we have outgrown our previous site, a Live Journal community page. After a month of brainstorming, creating, editing, and tweaking, our new site is finally open for business.

Our new site is prettier (thanks to Sammie and Melissa, our graphics gurus). It is much easier to navigate. It offers interactive application forms. And, it allows us to offer our members and the fandom so much more than we were able to before, with things such as: Spotlight, Challenges, Resources, and a F.A.Q.

Please take a moment to browse our new site here: http://www.projectteambeta.com/

The Twilight Kink Meme

A new fic community just opened up!

You ask, "what is a kink meme?"

Two Steps:

1. You request a pairing and a prompt/kink anonymously.
2. Someone else (or several someone elses for that matter) will be able to fill that request--also anonymously.

This is a fun way to get fic, a fun way to find fic to write, and good if you're embarrassed to post! This is fun for everyone who is over your-(respective)-nation's-you-can-read-porn age. That's right. Shit is dirty here--and fun. We play fast and loose 'round here. We have a zero tolerance kink flaming rule.

Don't like? Don't read.

Example of prompt: "I'd love to see some Jasper/Bella/Edward threesome college kink! All human is preferred, and I'd need for it to end E/B. Not opposed to slash."

Several stories already posted! Come check out and play.

Affiliate Post: Twilight Gift Exchange

Last Weekend of the Gift Exchange!

This is the final weekend of postings for the Twilight Gift Exchange. Over 70 stories and works of art have been posted anonymously for each recipient, covering everything from Edward and Bella to Nessie as an adult. There are one shots and multi-chaptered stories that will make you laugh, cry, and maybe even get a little steamy.

Next week The Fictionators will be hosting a "guess who wrote what" game, and the formal story unveiling will take place on the Twilight Gift Exchange site on March 1.

There are some amazing works - go check them out and see if you can guess who's who!

Affiliates: Indiana TwiFic and the Open Nomination Page

The Indie Awards - Open Nominations

It's that time again! Nominations opened for the indies yesterday - and there have been a number of changes since the last round.

To help speed you on your way through the nomination process, here is a quick run down on the details:

Categories

There are two primary groupings for this round - One shots/Novellas and Multi Chaptered fics.

The One Shot and Novella category will focus on single or multi-chaptered stories of less than 50,000 completed (yes, completed) that have the underlying theme of love conquers all. This can be Canon, AU or AH - so long as the story is well written and focuses on the concept of love in any form overcoming great odds.

The Multi-Chaptered category will follow a similar format to last round of the Indies. These categories will cover both completed and multi-chaptered stories under the following specialized categories:

  • Best New Moon Story:
This may be pure canon or AU, and must start off from some point during New Moon (for example Edward leaving, Jake saving Bella from drowning, etc). This may be a work in progress or a completed story.

  • Best Secondary Characterization:
Stories with strong representations of secondary characters that are not one of the Cullens, Bella, OR Jake. Examples of this include the Volturi, the wolf pack or Quileute tribe members, High School friends, or Nomads. In your nomination, please site one specific chapter where you feel the characterization is overly strong for speed of reference

  • Best Action or Drama Story:
Inclusive of drama, action, adventure, horror, this category covers those Canon, AU, and AH stories that can't be classified as love stories.

  • Best Love Triangle:
In keeping with the triangle that came to a head in New Moon , this category is for the best WIP or Complete story with a believable, compelling love triangle. This category can include canon and non canon pairings.

  • Best Use of a Parent:
Any AU, Canon or AH story with excellent use of Charlie, Renee, Billy, Carlisle, Esme or Sue in a parental role.

There will also be general nomination opions for WIP and Completed Canon/AU or AH Fics that you love.

Changes and Schedule

There have been some significant modifications to the rules specific to author eligibility, previous nominations, and promotion. Please take a moment to read the rules before you begin nominations to make the most of your time.

Nominations will be open until 1/28, with nominations targeted for announcement on 1/31. There will be a three week window between announcement of nominations and the first round of voting to allow for reading time - which was the number one feedback from phase one. Author names will also be included on the final nomination listing to help people move through the stories with ease.

Go nominate your favorite under appreciated stories now and help drive awareness to some great under appreciated fan fic!

Bell! Bell! Ding! Ding! Eddy-Eddy-ooooo! (Affiliates Post)

The Winter 2010 Eddies & Bellies

...and theeeeeey arrrre baaccck! (With lots of vowels, apparently. Heh.)

The Eddies and Bellies are a Twilight awards competition brought to you by Limona, withthevampsofcourse, and a host of other wonderful authors. The awards have three categories: The Eddies, The Bellies, and the Hall of the Fame. The Eddies are awards designed to draw attention to excellence in Twilight fan fiction. Each category is open to all genres and all ratings. The Bellies are a light-hearted companion competition to the Eddies that run twice yearly, in Winter and in Summer. There is no judging component to the Bellies. All nominee slots will be filled by the stories that receive the most nominations.

Rules:

  1. For the Bellies, any Twilight fan fiction, complete or incomplete, published at any time, with any rating, is eligible. The only exceptions are as follows:

  2. Limona and Withthevampsofcourse are ineligible to receive Bellie awards.

  3. No one author may be be up for more than two Bellie Awards in one session. In the event that an author qualifies in more than two categories, she will be entered in the two categories in which she received the most nominations.

  4. No one story may win more than two Bellie Awards per session. (Note: This is a change from before--no former fics are disqualified as with the previous session, e.g. IVO, WA, TO--they can win again!)

  5. There are only three categories:

Short Fiction
Mid-length fiction
Novel

For the Eddies... what makes the Eddies different is that every nomination will be considered. The stories with the most nominations will go directly to the ballot. The other stories nominated will be considered by a panel of peer judges for the ballot. Judges (who are not eligible for Eddies--but definitely for Bellies!) include:

The Eddies Winter 2010 Categories

Short Fiction
: Defined for the purpose of this competition as completed stories shorter than 10,000 words.

Mid-length fiction
: Defined for the purpose of this competition as completed stories longer than 10,000 words, but shorter than 50,000.

Novel (AU/Canon)
: Defined for the purpose of this competition as completed Alternate Universe or Canon stories longer than 50,000 words, but shorter than 180,000.

Novel (AH)
: Defined for the purpose of this competition as completed All Human stories (no vampires) longer than 50,000 words, but shorter than 180,000.

The Bellies Winter 2010 Categories

Emmett You Want as Your Brother
: This describes a fic with the best characterization of Emmett; an irritable grizzly so great that you’d want him to be the brother you call to beat up a boy who’s just broken your heart, or to play some old school Nintendo with when you’re sick, or to surprise you by having driven all the way from another state to get you drunk on your 21st birthday. Or something. Just an Emmett who’d make a good brother, okay?

Wolfpack Award
: This describes any fic whose main story is about one of the members of the Quileute tribe.

Story That Haunts Your Dreams
: This describes a fic that has that certain something- whether it be so good you can’t stop thinking about it, even in your sleep- or it just has… something… and you overanalyze it, over think it, and possibly consider PM’ing the author to please, please update or write a sequel or just explain how they managed to write something so damned good. At any rate, this fic has something that you can’t stop thinking about.

Best Fansite
: This is an award for the best Twilight-related, non-Eddies/Bellies website out there on the interwebs. Can be a blog, an independent website, or even a section of a larger website. Please provide a direct copy of the url (that’s the http://www.websitehere.com/bunchoflettersandnumbersifapplicable part).

(*cough*TLYDF*cough*)

Most Consistently Updated
: This describes a story that you think “Really? Didn’t this just update? OMG WHO CARES BRB READING”.

AU Fic You'd Write a Fic for
: This describes an alternate universe fic that is so good, you’d consider writing a fanfiction of it. Like, whoa. Trippy. Canon is not included in this because that’s what fanfiction is, technically. AU can be either vamp or human.

Best "Edward Who?" Fic
: This describes a fic where the OTP (One True Pairing, for those of you who hate acronyms) is not Bella & Edward. The fic creates a couple so tasty that you completely forget about that ~dazzling, bronze-haired God. Let’s be clear, here- in this fic, Bella does not end up with Edward, but he can be present in the story.

Fic You'd Click on for the Title Alone
: This describes a fic with a really great title. Doesn’t even matter if you like the story- haven’t you ever clicked just because the title was that good? We have.

Best Trendsetting Fic
: This describes a fic that did it first- whatever “it” was. You know what we mean- the fic that everyone says “Well, that was a great story, but it basically rips off __________.” We want the ___________ story.

Best Missing Moment (Canon Award)
: This describes a fic that is CANON. Please- canon is a story that you could insert into the Twilight universe and everything that we know to be true from the books would remain unchanged. Best Missing Moment would be any fic that takes place either Pre-Twilight or during Twilight, New Moon (the books, please), Eclipse, or Breaking Dawn. Can be any point-of-view as long as it was never a scene written by the original author.

Story That Makes You Wanna Throw Your Monitor
: This describes a fic that you read and begin to rage. Doesn’t have to be in the bad way, either. Perhaps the characters continue to make decisions with their head up their butt; perhaps someone acts like such a jerk that you can’t stand it. Whatever the reason, after you read an update, you’re possessed with the urge to wake someone up (because you know it’s 3 a.m., admit it) just so you can have your anger validated, or you get on chat and start all-capsing your fic buddy with things like OMG DID YOU READ I’MMA KILL SOMEONE I CAN’T BELIEVE HE DID THAT. Et cetera, et cetera.

Fic That Keeps You Up 'Til 3 A.M. Reading
: We’ve all done it. The story was so good that you think to yourself “Hmm, it’s ten. I can get away with two more chapters and then I’ll finish tomorrow after work.” Suddenly, it’s twenty chapters later, it’s 2:30 a.m., and you think OMG THREE MORE CHAPTERS I CAN DO THIS WHO CARES I’M ALREADY SCREWED FOR PRODUCTIVITY TOMORROW and you do, indeed, finish the story. Basically, you sacrifice your personal health, your marriage, your schoolwork, and all other things that are important because you chose to finish the story instead of wondering what you missed by choosing sleep over the fic.

So, go nominate! Click on the nomination form to begin.

The Indies First-Time Writer Challenge

So, like a month ago, I bugged you with the announcement that the thoughtful geniuses behind the Indies were back and better than ever with a spunky new contest - The First Time Writers Challenge - and now I am here to tell you that the entries have begun to filter in, and to remind you that all of you first time writers need to crack out of your shell and emerge all fuzzy and happy with your new story. Anyhoo, once again, the details:

Rules and Guidelines

Submissions will be accepted from September 19 12:00 AM EDT to October 27 11:59 PM EDT (based on time stamp of submission via http://www.theindietwificawards.com).

The theme of the challenge is "First Experiences". Entries may be Canon, AU, AH and of any genre (e.g., angst, humor, family, suspense).

Entry's ratings must correspond to the appropriate equivalent for the entry’s website (e.g. MA, PG-13, R).

Shipping: All ships are acceptable so long as they are tastefully done and well written. Pedophilic pairings and incest pairings are NOT acceptable. Any story found to violate this criteria will be ruled ineligible.

Collaborations are acceptable so long as it is a first time effort for both writers.

Limit of two entries per author or collaboration group.

Entries will be accepted from FanFiction.net (FFn), LiveJournal (LJ), Twilighted (T’ed), and Simply Twilight. Please note that we will not be able to add entries submitted via sites other than FFn to the C2.

Entries must be between 2,500 and 15,000 words. The official word count will be assessed during the validation process via copy/paste of the entry (excluding header and AN) into Word 2007. Additionally, searches will be done across the four sites mentioned above to certify that no work by the author pre-exists. If at any time an author is identified to have pre-existing work, the one shot will be disqualified.

Twilight 25 Exception: If you are currently writing for the Twilight 25, and it is your first time writing, you will be able to participate in the First Time Writers Contest.

If we see more than 75 entries, additional groupings may be announced, based on types of entries received.

One-shots may not be expanded until the contest is over.

Submitting an Entry

Submitting an Entry Submissions will be accepted via our website.

All entries must use a “The Indies First Time Writer Challenge” Contest header, which is below:

Special thanks to the For The Love Of Jasper contest for sharing their contest framework with us.

Entries will be validated for quality grammar/punctuation and rules compliance when the entry is submitted. After an entry has been validated, if submitted via FFn, it will be added to the "The Indies First Time Writer Challenge" C2. Authors will be PMed or emailed when their entries have been validated. If an entry is disqualified, the author will be PMed and may modify and resubmit the entry by the submission deadline, if she so chooses.

We encourage any author with need for a beta to check out Project Team Beta.

Categorization of Entries

All Entries will be broken into two master groupings: Rated M and Rated T or Below.
If at the time of voting, we have more than 30 entries under the master category, secondary categories will be created to group the entries. For example, if 40 entries are received, 15 being AU, 20 being AH, and 5 canon, they will distribute that way. If we see more than 75 entries, additional groupings may be announced, based on types of entries received.

Voting

After the submission deadline has passed, there will be an open/public voting round featuring all validated entries.

Open Voting will run from November 1 12:00 AM EDT to November 15 11:59 PM EDT.

In addition to Open Voting, there will be a Judges’ Selection round. The judges will assess all submitted entries, and will do so anonymously – all header information (author, title, etc) will be removed from an entry before the judges read it.

All winners will be announced 9pm EST on November 10.

Affiliate: Once Upon a Twilight Contest

Once Upon A Twilight Contest hosted by Wishimight/Everwondering author of Dangerous Affections and True Beauty and staceygirl aka jackbauer author of Stranded and Return to Me.

Once upon a time, in a magical land of pointy silverware, lived a family who sparkled like diamonds in the woods. A little fairy foresaw that love would blossom after the magnificent stone-skinned man rescued a fair damsel who had been cursed with tripping and attacks from vans enchanted with evil spells. Their adventures included encounters with monsters, the big bad wolf, the evil witch of Alaska, hidden castles in the tropics, strange potions given to the heroine in Styrofoam cups, and true love’s kiss that put her into a three day coma but led to happily ever after and a bizarre half breed baby.

Now it’s your turn to write your own Happily Ever After for our beloved

Affiliates: Final Day to Vote for Indies!

Why are The Indies so fucking cool?

1. Because we can show love to people who haven't won awards yet, but totally deserve it.
2. Because it highlight stories that we possibly haven't read, but really should.
3. Because it has a pretty website.
4. Because the coding is GOOD.
5. Because it has these little rollover thingies.
6. Because it is good for the fandom to see new things.
7. Because Pastiche will read this and beta me by saying "'Things' is too vague!"
8. Because the staff over there worked their asses off.
9. Because the authors who made it to the final round worked THEIR asses off.
10. Because there's no better way to say "Thanks for sharing your story" than to vote for it.

Please vote for Indies! Voting closes today! There is no email verification or any run-around. Just a one-page click-through. Simple. Quick. Easy. Fun.

The Music Sundays Summer Music Playlist Swap

Music Sundays, our inappropriately named sister blog commanded by style guru Emibella and your favorite dirty uncle wtvoc, has started a new series written by Twific lovers for Twific Lovers:

The Music Sundays Summer Music Playlist Swap is a collaborative effort to get YOU, the reader, to listen to quality music picked by people you know.

At the beginning of summer, several people were asked if they wanted to participate. The catch was that you had to be willing to put your playlist up to the anonymous scrutiny of one of your peers. That's right, anonymous.

Each week, they will feature a set of playlists based on a certain theme. Every Sunday (or Monday. See? Inappropriate blog name) a new playlist will go up with a reveal on Wednesday. As an example, wtvoc and emibella did Songs that Remind You of Summer and this week they are featuring:

Songs the Ooze Sex Appeal
with The Neon Excuse and The Beige Bandit.

Later today, the website will unmask these sexy ladies but you still have time to add your favorite song to the comments.

Go check it out, listen to some sexy tunes and have a great Wednesday with Music Sundays!
